Handpicked for Logan - Wrap N Roll

When Logan-based mum of two Hon (pictured above right) moved to Queensland from Vietnam in the early 1980s, she says people didn’t know too much about the food from her home country. Fast forward 38 years, and she can now say that rice paper rolls and pho have become a much-loved part of the modern Australian diet.

Together with her nephew Xuyen (pictured above left), who came to Australia from Ho Chi Min City in 2014, Hon runs Hyperdome’s Wrap N Roll – a small but busy outlet for fresh, handmade Vietnamese classics and a big favourite for locals looking for a healthy lunch alternative.

Since opening in 2015, Wrap N Roll has established itself as a go-to for hungry locals keen for a taste of Vietnam on the run. The menu covers everything from bun (noodle salad with your choice of barbecue pork or lemongrass chicken), banh mi (Vietnamese-style filled bread rolls), pho noodle soups and a range of traditional Vietnamese rice paper rolls, which are rolled fresh throughout the day to meet demand.

“Our most popular order is our avocado and chicken rice paper rolls,” Hon says. “We sell a lot of those. Our customers love them.” And her own personal favourite? “My favourite is the vegetable rice paper roll with avocado. I like to have it for my lunch. It’s healthy and it tastes good.”

Pass by Wrap N Roll at any time of the day and you’ll likely see Hon and her team busily wrapping rice paper rolls or preparing soups and noodles in the shop’s open kitchen. Everything here is made fresh on site daily with freshness and authenticity in mind, so you just know it’ll be good.

“Our food is good because it’s healthy,” Hon says. “And we have a lot of variety for our customers to choose from. There’s something different for everyone, including vegetarians – it just depends what you feel like on the day.”

When asked what she loves about being a Logan local, Hon doesn’t hesitate to share her thoughts on what makes the area great.

“I really like living here. It’s a good community and the people have always been very nice,” she says. “Plus, it has good weather – much better than other cities. My sister lives in Melbourne, too cold in Melbourne!” she laughs.
